Spawned from the Winston-Salem. N.C., jangle-pop circuit, Thrift Bakery often chooses the harder route of rock, funk and experimental indie rock. But they have been known to fall for a hook, chorus and guitar-based melody in recent years. The virtual band is now scattered across the USA and has been known to take a long hiatus. Freshness Test was released in 1988 and Mediocre Criminals 29 years later. Transcendent, their most tuneful long-player, came out in 2020. And the band keeps releasing new music.
