It is my belief that video games house an enormous potential for intellectual and experiential exploration, posing questions and traversing grounds unreachable by any other medium-in-quite-the-same-way. They are not merely expressions of entertainment, as is neither a film nor a piece of music.
Music dynamically affects the experience of a video game. This is not a new concept. Music has been used in conjunction with games since the early days. However, it continues to be an area of profound emphasis to the gameplay experience. Nearly every one of my most cherished games possesses a soundtrack that has, for one reason or another, deeply affected me. At times I wonder if I even enjoy playing games at all, as it is the music that continues to linger, and draws me into the most deeply emotive expression of nostalgia I have ever witnessed in my lifetime. There is really no other thing in my life that has affected me, in this way, quite like the music of games.
